1) Transportation in Canada includes scheduled international air service at airports in cities such as Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal. Domestic flights within Canada link most areas of the country. Many airplane charter companies provide custom service into remote areas and smaller communities throughout Canada. Scheduled transcontinental railway passenger service as well as scheduled motorcoach bus service, offer alternative transportation to most areas in Canada. Vehicle rental companies are located in all major airports and cities. There is also scheduled ferry service between Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, British Columbia on the Pacific coast.

2) Hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, lodges, guest ranches, hostels and guest farms offer many choices of accommodations in Canada. From luxurious five star accommodations, to simple roadside motels, there is something for all budgets and to suit any vacation package. Campsites are found throughout Canada along the major highways as well as in more remote areas. Fees can range from $5 to $20 per night depending on location, operator and services provided.

3) National Parks require all visitors to purchase a permit. These permits are available from the park entrances or from Heritage Canada 1-800-651-7959 (in Canada). Daily permits are $8-$10 per vehicle and annual permits are $38-$50 per vehicle.

6) Arrival into Canada: Normally, when a visitor arrives in Canada they will be examined by a Customs Officer for immigration, customs, health and agricultural questions. Personal documentation required will depend on the citizenship or permanent residency of the individual traveller. A visitors visa, passport or other travel documents may be required.

7) Importing: A visitor coming to Canada can bring certain goods into the country duty free, including personal baggage, 1.14 L of wine or spirits or 8.5 L of beer or ale, 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars and 400g of tobacco. Certain agricultural items are banned from entry into Canada and pets must have rabies vaccination certification. Firearms such as pistols or revolvers can only be imported into Canada if the visitor is participant at an approved shooting competition or gun show, in this case a permit is required. Other guns such as rifles and shotguns used for hunting or sport shooting do not require permits.

8) GST: The Goods and Services Tax can be refunded to non-residents of Canada on many items and services. Visitors must have all receipts and the minimum amount spent must be $100 or more.
