Central Alberta includes several diverse ecosystems, each with it's own potential for adventure. In central Alberta's western foothills, there are rivers, streams, forests and abundant wildlife. Guest ranches and resorts in central Alberta offer the traveller many activity choices from hiking to horseback riding and whitewater rafting. The fisherman will find good fishing for rainbow, brown and brook trout, along with northern pike, walleye and perch. The northern part of central Alberta includes the aspen parkland, which is famous for its wildlife and birdwatching. In winter there is icefishing, dogsledding, cross country skiing and good snowmobile trail systems. The City of Edmonton with its famous West Edmonton Mall is the capital city of Alberta and is the region's main destination and transportation centre.
