ABOUT THIS REGION

The Vancouver - Whistler - Chilcotin area of British Columbia is the adventure hub of British Columbia. The city of Vancouver offers countless outdoor pursuits. Paddle a kayak along the ocean's shoreline, view killer whales and other marine life, hike your way up the north shore's Grouse Mountain or tee off at a world-class golf course. Tour the art galleries and shopping districts or walk through the picturesque Stanley Park. Ski or snowboard all winter long or turn a spa day into a spa week. Vancouver has it all. Whistler, home of the 2010 Winter Olympics, is a four season resort vacation destination. In the summer, Whistler offers adventure lovers rafting, fishing, hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. Fish are jumping for anglers in pristine lakes and rivers, with runs of Steelhead, trout and salmon. Winter offers some of the best downhill skiing in North America at Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. With two mountains, three glaciers, 33 lifts and over 2382 ha (7,000 ac) of skiable terrain, skiers and snowboarders from around the world descend on these pristine peaks. But Whistler is more than just downhill skiing in the winter. The area also has an extensive trail system for cross country skiing, snowmobiling, dogsledding and snowshoeing. The Chilcotin Mountains are a stunning mixture of lush forests, crystal clear waters, alpine meadows and pristine valleys. The Chilcotins are ideal for wildlife watching, horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking and fishing. Local ranches and lodges offer solitude and a variety of outdoor activities while still providing all the comforts of home. The relatively low number of visitors each year make the Chilcotins a popular destination for the adventure traveler looking for a true wilderness experience. The Chilcotin Mountains area also the location of some of the best heli-skiing and heli-boarding in the world, as well as snowmobiling, snowshoeing and cross country skiing.
