ABOUT THIS REGION

The Thompson - Okanagan region offers a variety of ecosystems, ranging from mountains, to deserts to lush valleys. The Thompson area of this region includes scenic Wells Gray Provincial Park, a park known for its waterfalls and canyons. Trek through the mountains on foot or head out on a horseback adventure. The lake system in the park offers exceptional canoeing and kayaking opportunities. In winter, the area offers the skier many different adventure choices whether you are into cross country or alpine telemarking. For a unique winter experience, try dogsledding, snowshoeing or snowmobiling in the heart of the backcountry. The Okanagan is world famous for its wineries, vineyards and fruit orchards. The wonderful weather creates perfect growing conditions and wine and orchard tours, offered by foot or by bike, are a favourite activity among visitors. The Okanagan's unspoiled lakes, rivers and streams offer great fishing for the angler in search of rainbow trout. Many guest ranches and lodges are found in the Okanagan and are a great base for you to set out on your own or with a guide. The area is also home to some of the best houseboating in Canada on Lake Okanagan and Shuswap Lakes. In the winter, mild temperatures and lots of snow make the Okanagan area a mecca for skiers.
