TRIP DETAILS

Trip Highlights
Day 1:
Arrive in Inuvik. Meet at a local hotel for dinner. Overnight in hotel is your responsibility.
Day 2:
After breakfast you will be flown east over the tundra ecosystem. You will then assemble canoes and prepare camp.
Day 3:
First day on the river and Horton's broad valley stretches out before you. Your Inuvialuit guide will unfold secrets of viewing the land in traditional ways.
Day 4 to 5:
The next two days are spent exploring the river and the land. The treeless tundra offers excellent hiking opportunities. The river valley is home to a variety of wildlife.
Day 6 to 9:
The next four days will be spent in the rolling tundra. Three days you will be paddling and one day will be a layover where you can do some more hiking. You may view grizzlies, muskoxen and caribou.
Day 10:
The river begins to slow as it near the coast. A variety of landscapes and colours provide some intriguing hikes.
Day 11:
Some large meanders in the river are navigated during today's paddle. Camp will be within a 3 km hike of the ocean.
Day 12:
This day you will hike from the river, overland in search of active vents in the Smoking Hills. You may be able to spot some beluga whales and caribou migration.
Day 13:
An aircraft will pick you up and return you to Inuvik. There may be time to explore the town. Farewell supper. Overnight in a hotel.
Day 14:
Departure for home.
