TRIP DETAILS

Trip Highlights
Day 1:
Arrival in Whitehorse. Orientation meeting at a local hotel. Overnight in hotel in Whitehorse at your responsiblity.
Day 2:
At a breakfast meeting you will discuss final details before departure on the Alaska highway. Along the way you will visit the Kluane National Park Interpretive Centre. You will then south into the Kluane Game Sanctuary arriving at Dalton Post. Following a safety orientation you will begin your rafting trip on the Tatshenshini. You will encounter clas 2-4 whitewater and float deeper into the St. Elias Mountains. As you proceed down the river you will leave the Yukon and enter British Columbia. Overnight at tent camp.
Day 3:
Today is a quiet day on the river, moving through the broad valleys. The region is home to much wildlife and some great views of the Alsek Range.
Day 4:
Weather permitting, this is a hiking day. You will spend the day exploring the area known as Goat Ridge.
Day 5 to 6:
The next two days you will float past the Carmine peaks and the O'Connor River with great views of the far off St. Elias Range.
Day 7:
Today you will begin to see the many glaciers of the area. From your camp at Melt Creek you can count 27 different glaciers.
Day 8:
This day the Alsek River joins you from the north. The Noisy Range overlooks the confluence where the Tatshenshini disappears in the shadow of the looming Pentice Ice Caps. The hike onto the surface of the glacier is unforgettable.
Day 9:
Back on the river you will pass Novatak Glacier, nearly six miles wide. As Mt. Fairweather appears around the bend, dwarfing the surrounding peaks. The iceberg studded lake is an enchanting place to camp.
Day 10:
Conditions permitting, you will paddle toward the face of the glaciers. You will lunch on and island between two arms of the Alsek Glacier.
Day 11:
The Alsek now passes through a transition from the tallest peak on the continent to the broad flat Pacific coastline. Back on the river you pull into shore at the Dry Bay fish packing plant where your plane will rendezvous with you in the afternoon. You will then be transported back to Whitehorse. Overnight in hotel in Whitehorse at your responsiblity.
Day 12:
Depart Whitehorse for home.
