TRIP DETAILS

Trip Highlights
Day 1:
Arrive in Fort Simpson. Time for last minute packing and questions. Flight out to the river. Overnight in tent camp.
Day 2:
This day is spent exploring and photographing the area around Virginia Falls. Optional day hike up Sunblood Mountain.
Day 3:
Today you will portage the falls and then embark on an exciting run through Painted Canyon. Camp is at Wrigley Creek.
Day 4:
Today you will drift past the confluence of the Flat River and enter Third Canyon. You camp halfway through the canyon near The Gate.
Day 5:
In the morning you will do a short hike to the top of The Gate. After lunch you will paddle through Third Canyon to camp at Big Bend.
Day 6:
On through Second Canyon and into Deadmen Valley, where you will stop for a 2 hour hike of the region. After drifting by Headless Creek, you continue on to Sheaf Creek and camp for the night at Prairie Creek.
Day 7:
This day is spent relaxing around the camp and exploring the Prairie Creek area. A chance to do some fishing.
Day 8:
The day starts with a short hike up Dry Canyon, followed by the big waves of George's Riffle. You will camp near Lafferty Creek.
Day 9:
Spend the day hiking up Lafferty Creek canyon.
Day 10:
After a quick dip in Kraus' Hotsprings you will paddle on to the braided channels of The Splits.
Day 11:
Breaking camp, you will rendezvous with a power boat and be taken to the native village of Nahanni Butte. A quick stop at the village and you will be taken to Blackstone Landing.
Day 12:
Transfer to Fort Simpson for departure.
