TRIP DETAILS

Trip Highlights
Day 1:
Day one (Sunday) begins in Vancouver with a charter flight up to Chilko Lake. Along the way you will cross the Pemberton icefields and see British Columbia's highest peak. The guides and rafts are waiting and soon you will be heading down the upper sections of the Chilko river. This is a good area for trout fishing. The afternoon sees you continue through the swift current and gentle rapids from the mountains down to your meadow camp in the pine forest. A gourmet meal completes your introductory day.
Day 2:
Today is whitewater! The morning is spent going over paddling safety instructions as world renowned Lava Canyon (class V), the longest and most continuos rapid section of the journey, is just around the corner. For two hours you will run the "White Mile", "May Tag" and twelve miles of virtually unending whitewater. You will descend over 1000 vertical feet as the river drops through lava rock fromations and pine forests. After Lava Canyon, the river doubles in size as the turquoise Taseko River joins the Chilko. You run the dramatic "Gap" at Siwash Bridge where the river squeezes through a twenty-foot hole cut in the lava flow.
Day 3:
Today you join the Chilcotin which crosses the lush Chilcotin Plateau, home to many osprey and bald eagles. This is a great opportunity to try an inflatable kayak. Along the river there are opportunities to hike to a bat cave or to watch local natives dip-net for salmon.
Day 4:
The day starts with another fantastic breakfast, then you head down river into the 5-mile long Gooseneck rapids. The landscape changes from forest into desert. An early camp today will allow time for fishing, hiking and photography.
Day 5:
Thursday starts with the largest rapids on the journey so far. Big Creek rapids will definitely keep your eyes open on this one-mile thrill ride. The Chilcotin winds its way deeper into the canyons, and the Big rapids at Farwell Canyon are only dwarfed by the towering desert badlands all around you. The end of the day brings your raft into the mighty Fraser river, where camp is set up along its sandy beaches.
Day 6:
You will spend the final day floating through the largest working ranch in North America until you reach Churn Creek. There will be a mini-bus here to shuttle you to the B.C. Rail Passenger train in Lillooett. The train winds its way down the mountain valleys past Whistler and Howe Sound into Vancouver.
