We meet in St. John's; have a short orientation, giving you an opportunity to meet you fellow adventurers, then head to Petty Harbour. The coastal walk from Maddox Cove to Cape Spear National Historic Site is incredible for observing birds and whales as we explore area around the Cape Spear lighthouse, the most easterly point of land in North America. Accommodations: St. John's
Day 2:
This morning we take a private boat tour around the islands in the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve, home to thousands of seabirds soaring, nesting, and feeding. Every year, millions of puffins, murres & storm petrels leave the open ocean and come to here to nest & feed. We hike from Bauline East to abandoned fishing village of LaManche with its newly constructed suspension bridge. Accommodations: St. John's
Day 3:
We will visit The Rooms, our province's newest public cultural space. The Rooms unites the Provincial Museum, the Provincial Art Gallery and the Provincial Archives under one roof. Lunch is at world famous St. John's landmark known for its excellent fish and chips. After this you will be dropped off on Water Street for a "twack" ( a Newfoundland word for window shopping) in our many colourful boutiques and shops. We'll stroll the narrow lanes all the way to the famous landmark of Signal Hill. Tonight we experience the uniqueness of George Street's live Irish music scene. The 3 block long George Street has the highest density of bars and pubs of any street in North America. Accommodations: St. John's
Day 4:
Today we experience the renowned sea kayak destination of Cape Broyle. Inside this protected fjord beginner kayakers can paddle alongside whales and icebergs, go inside numerous sea caves, under waterfalls and through arches. After our beach picnic we'll have excellent walking opportunities to look down on the seascape we had just paddled. Accommodations: Ferryland
Day 5:
Hike from Aquaforte to Ferryland to explore the ongoing archeological dig "The Colony of Avalon", the first colony of North America. On this walk we will enjoy thunderous waterfalls, riverside paths, cobble beaches and nesting seabirds on Crow Island. Picnic lunch is served outdoors or if weather is inclement we can go inside a recently renovated lighthouse converted into a unique tea room. Tonight we dine at a lively local live dinner theater in Ferryland. Accommodations: Ferryland
Day 6:
In the morning we have time to walk around St. John's one more time before we head to the airport for our final goodbyes.
