ABOUT THIS REGION  CROSS COUNTRY SKIING

Cross country skiing adventure on Baffin Island

These exciting arctic cross country skiing adventures take place on the north end of Baffin Island. The circular route chosen for this incredible trip will showcase some of the best landscapes and scenery North Baffin Island has to offer. In this beautiful and challenging environment, clients will have the opportunity to ski over frozen lakes and streams, through narrow canyons, past enormous glaciers and down frozen river systems. One of the highlights of the trip is passing through an amazing unnamed lake system.

Cross country skiing adventure on Baffin Island

Surrounded by high mountains and glaciers, this is a place few people have ever ventured. A massive calving glacier spills into a lake, creating icebergs. At this time of year the lake is completely frozen and the icebergs are safely locked in the ice. As we make our way, under constant daylight, through the valleys and lake systems, we will camp on occasion beside the icebergs, using them as an extra source of fresh drinking water. Support drop off and pick up will be provided by snowmachine and komatik (sleds) and clients will pull small gear sleds behind them. On the homeward bound portion of the trip, we ski across a glacier, then negotiate our way down a frozen river system before returning to Pond Inlet. Join us, as we explore and experience this remote, exciting and challenging Arctic environment.
