Backpacking the remote Tombstone Mountains

The Tombstone Mountains present an incredible and important landscape whose granite pinnacles have been shaped by wind, water, and glaciers into hornes, aretes and sheer rock walls. Sub-arctic tundra, boreal forest and alpine tundra all interweave creating a remarkably diverse and productive eco-system. At the northern edge of the Tombstone Range is Berengia, an area that escaped the glacial scarring of the last ice age.

Your adventure into the Tombstone Mountains begins with a helicopter flight into the heart of the region. Your hike out will pass through an imposing landscape of hanging valleys, morraine lakes, and spectacular Tombstone vistas. After hiking our way out of the Tombstone Mountains, along the North Klondike Valley, we will rendezvous with our van. We will drive on to Dawson City, restored to its glory goldrush days. We will take a tour of the goldfields, drive to the Dome and an exceptional view of Dawson and surrounding regions, and enjoy an evening of festivity at Diamond Tooth Gertie's.

Backpacking the remote Tombstone Mountains

Season: September 1, 2012 to September 8, 2012
Requirements: Warm sleeping bag, sleeping pad, backpack. Rentals available.
Suggested Items: Camera, daypack, sunglasses, sunscreen.
Suggested Clothing: Clothing suited to a variety of temperatures and weather conditions, rain gear, hat, warm socks, hiking boots, sneakers, swim suit, towel.
Difficulty: Intermediate
Restrictions: Good level of fitness and some past trekking experience is recommended on this strenuous trip. Be prepared to carry packs of at least 30 pounds.
Maximum Number of People: 12
Equipment Provided: Helicopter flight into the Tombstones, camping fees, cooking gear, camp stoves, tents, tarps, major first aid supplies, emergency radio or satellite phone.
Transportation: Trips originate and end in Whitehorse, Yukon. Transportation arrangements available.
Accommodations: At tent campsites at spectacular locations. 2 nights accommodation in Dawson City included.
Meal Information: Meals/snacks/beverages while on the expedition are included.
Guide Information: Two guides per tour, each with wilderness first aid certification. Your guides have many years of experience in the outdoors and are experts in the activity they lead. They are also familiar with the natural and cultural history of the area and committed to your satisfaction and safety.
Weather Information: Summer temperatures average between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius.
