Summer sled dog cart tours in Alberta

Enjoy the thrill of being transported by a team of Alaskan Huskies in a full suspension wheeled cart on this summer sled dog tour. These 2 to 4 seat carts are custom built with both passenger and dogs safety as well as comfort in mind, as the dogs pull you at a speed of 10-14 mph along the trail. The tour starts with a brief introduction to Alaskan Huskies as a breed and as an athlete, some general mushing knowledge, the racing background of the dogs and an explanation on what to expect during the ride. Then the tour guide will introduce each dog in the team to you once out on the trail as well as answer any questions you may have. The 1-1.5 hour tour is run on a 20 mile private trail system that follows along the banks of the scenic Red Deer River. The trails will take you along the river bank where moose, deer, coyotes, and birds may all be seen! Then you will travel through a beautiful forested flood plane and finally through the unique Alberta badlands where antelope are often seen grazing!

For the more adventurous, clients participating in the regular tour will then have an opportunity to take it to the next level and drive their own team of racing sleddogs. Participants will have the option to become a musher of their own sleddog team for a couple of hours and have a once in a life time experience! You will get to run and drive your own team of 6 to 8 race dogs pulling a 1 person race cart on a 3 to 5 mile trail while following a guide driving a team in front, showing the way around the course. You will first be introduced to your team of 6 or 8 dogs so you can become acquainted with these amazing, happy, friendly athletes that love their job! Then you will learn the basics with a hands on approach by participating and watching instructions as a guide walks you through all of the steps. You will learn all of the basics of driving your own team before, during, and after the run. Everything from harnessing, hooking up, driving, and watering/caring will be covered. Truly a unique summer experience.
