Weather and wildlife encounters are less predictable than elsewhere in the North, but sightings of polar bears, walrus and bowhead whales are not unusual. This is also the best time of year to see the night sky bathed in the eerie green glow of the Aurora Borealis dancing above your head. During this expedition you may visit Inuit communities, “go exploring” in the zodiacs to look for wildlife, or hike where possibly no one has been before. Some of the locations you will visit along the route include Qikiqtarjuaq (Broughton Island), Pond Inlet, Bylot Island and Beechey Island.

| Suggested Clothing: Dressing in layers of warm clothes will ensure you are always comfortable while on the ship, travelling in the zodiacs or on shore. Turtlenecks, sweaters or fleece pullovers, waterproof jacket & pants, gloves, hat, scarf, hiking boots, footwear for on board the ship, wool socks, long underwear. |

| Restrictions: This cruise is ideal for anyone with an inquiring mind and easy going attitude who is reasonably fit and in good health. On shore, when possible you will break into guided groups depending on interest and physical ability, so you will never be left behind. You will be walking on uneven terrain, and must be able to descend a flight of stairs from the ship into a zodiac. These expeditions are best suited for people with an adventurous spirit, who still want comfortable accommodations and good food. If itineraries make deviations from the expected route, it’s all part of the adventure! We do not have an age limit. Passengers have ranged in age from 3 weeks to 90 years old. Due to the nature of the expedition, we cannot always accommodate disabilities. |

| Transportation: The 11 day cruise begins in Kuujjuaq, Quebec and ends in Resolute, Nunavut. The 10 day cruise begins in Resolute and ends in Kuujjuaq. Flights to and from Montreal, Quebec can be added to the package. |
| Accommodations: This cruise takes place aboard the Lyubov Orlova, built in 1976 and renovated in 2006. All cabins are outside, with two lower beds and private facilities. Double cabins have two lower fixed berths; triple cabins have an additional Pullman-style upper berth. Cabins on Captain's Deck have one square window that opens and one fixed window. Hudson Suites have a separate living room with sectional couch, DVD and monitor, two square windows that open, and two fixed portholes. Baffin Suite (503) has a sectional couch, DVD and monitor, three square windows that open and one fixed porthole. Baffin Suites (505, 506) have DVD and monitor, one square window that opens and one fixed porthole. Hudson Suites and Baffin Suite (503) open onto a promenade which has glass windows to the outside. Baffin Suites (505, 506) open into an interior reception area. Main and lower deck cabin portholes do not open. All cabin floors are carpeted. Each cabin has a loudspeaker for general announcements and optional music piped in from the radio room. Hairdryers, quality soap and shower gel are available in each cabin. Daily housekeeping service is provided for all cabins. Towels will be changed as desired but, for environmental reasons, we ask passengers to change towels only if necessary. Bed sheets will be changed every third day. There is no food service to the cabins.
There is a fully-stocked bar on board, with juices and soft drinks, wines, beer and a basic selection of liquor. A bartender is on duty daily, with table service at both lunch and dinner. There is also an exercise room, library and laundry service available on board. |
| Meal Information: All meals during the cruise are included. Breakfast and lunch are both served buffet style, while dinner is served a la carte. There will always be meat, seafood and vegetarian options. When possible we do try to incorporate local delicacies such as caribou and Arctic Char. Special dietary requests can be accommodated. |
| Guide Information: Sightseeing with an English speaking guide during the shore excursions and zodiac cruises. Some guides speak French or other languages and reasonable efforts will be made to serve passengers in those languages; however, such service is not guaranteed and the core program will be conducted in English. |
| Weather Information: In July and August, the regional temperature is an average 50 F (9 C). It is also common to have beautiful sunny days with temperatures reaching the high 60’s F (18 C). When you are on land and walking around it usually gets quite warm and people tend to take off layers. On the other hand, zodiac rides can be quite chilly. |
