A magnet for outdoor enthusiasts, there's plenty to amuse and distract in and around Golden all year round. Walking, (for fun or for the serious) biking, (for the safe or the mad) golfing at beautiful mountain courses, white water rafting on the Kicking Horse River and of course skiing. The local ski hill at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort has become one of the top downhill ski destinations anywhere in Canada, plus you are close to Lake Louise or Banff in the Alberta Rockies. If you like really extreme mountain biking - Golden is also home to the Mount7 Psychosis mountain bike race. The hill in Golden is called Kicking Horse Mountain Resort and is set to shake things up in the ski and mountain bike world. Kicking Horse boasts the highest vertical in the Canadian Rockies at 4133 feet. It's been a long held secret amongst locals, who for years have enjoyed skiing the uncrowded 2750 acres of light champagne powder. With 106 marked runs, the powder playground with glades, bowls, moguls and chutes is a skiers and boarders dream. Kicking Horse is the place everyone in the know is talking about.
