Your first day or two will include training near the ranch and preparation for camping. The guides will make sure you know how to handle the dogs, the sled and all the gear. They will also make sure that you have all the clothing and camping gear you need for your great expedition. Together you will decide what sort of camping to do: bush camps, 'cold camping' in your sled or camping in heated tents. On this tour you will travel a section of the famous trail of the Yukon Quest International Sled-Dog Race and get a sense of what Quest mushers experience! You may just discover that magical feeling that gets mushers hooked on the race. You'll see what it's like to be a 'distance musher' driving your own dog-team, with one of the expert guides. This tour usually involves 3 to 5 days on the trail, but can be as long as 6 days out and can be modified to suit individual needs. For one variation you travel along the new Yukon Quest Trail on the Takhini River then on the historic Dawson Trail to Braeburn, which is an official checkpoint during the Quest. For most of this trek you run the same trail as Quest mushers and camp out on the trail just as the racing mushers do. After Braeburn you leave the new trail and head to Coghlin Lake which used to be an unofficial stop on the old Quest Trail. There you can stay in an old cabin or camp on the trail before heading up
Lake Laberge and the Yukon River to the Takhini River and finally back to the ranch. Once home you can relax in the sauna and share your tales from the two famous trails over dinner.
