Making your way to Canada you'll watch for whales and walrus known to frequent the waters of Baffin Bay. Kangiqsualujjuaq (George River), Nunavik will be our first call in Canada. Nestled on the bank of the George River the group will explore the town on foot, learning about the land and community from local residents. The following morning you awake in the Torngat Mountains National Park, the crowning jewel in Canada's federal parks. Towering peaks, immense fiords, fall foliage and grand skies await you. On the zodiac cruises, and hikes we hope to spot a number of species that call the area home; polar bear, black bear, caribou, wolves, whales and a dozen bird species to name just a few. The voyage in the Big Land will include Nunatsiavut, home of the Labrador Inuit, with planned stops at the abandoned site of Okak and the present day township of Hopedale. Continuing south you will explore what will be Labrador's Second national park, the Mealy Mountains. We then head for the north coast of Newfoundland to the historical Viking settlement of L'Anse aux Meadows. L'Anse aux Meadows, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the only authenticated Viking settlement in North America. Located at the tip of Newfoundland's Great Northern Peninsula, it is widely regarded as one of the most important archaeological sites globally. The tour ends in the city of St. John's, the capital of Newfoundland.
