You will use the lodge on Ungava Bay as your base. The lodge is located on the remote subarctic tundra of northern Quebec; 800 miles North of Montreal / 90 miles South-East of Kuujjuaq. From here you’ll fly-out every day to experience the regions arctic wildlife and natural wonders. The largest land carnivore on earth; the “polar bear”, can be observed along the East Ungava Bay and Labrador coast. Take advantage of the guided air safari to photograph this magnificent white giant. Icebergs are a common sight in this part of the world and these giant ice sculptures with their turquoise and emerald hues are a photographer’s true dream. You’ll be awestruck when you see these gigantic drifting mountains. It is an unparalleled ice experience. Torngat Mountains National Park has over a dozen waterfalls exceeding 900 feet high. Some falls literally shoot out from the sheer wall face, others fall like fine angel hairs and some flow through amazing rocky arches. If wildflowers are your passion, about 330 species of vascular plants and 220 species of mosses are known to grow in the Torngat Mountains park area. Find rare arctic flowers like the Arctic Poppy and the famous Mountain Sorrel used to prevent and cure scurvy. During the short arctic summer, plants here must grow fast. Most are short, taking advantage of the warmth and wind shelter that they find close to the ground. You will also visit the mysterious ghost town of Hebron. Hebron has an incredible history. Walk in the steps of the Moravian missionaries that came from Germany in the 1800s. Discover mysterious remains, such as a Gothic-style church, century-old houses, tens of open-sky tombs, and all with a spectacular view of the Labrador Sea. Lastly, you will spend one day on the tundra walking with thousands of caribou. The first sight of the long processions of caribou stretching several kilometers will leave you totally amazed, and a walking safari in this exceptional place is unforgettable. In July, after a long winter, thousands of caribou return to give birth on the George River plateau. The area is well known to amateur and professional photographers in search of a subarctic wildlife photo safari.
