ABOUT THIS REGION  TELEMARK BACKCOUNTRY SKIING

Backcountry skiing from a lodge near Whistler

Access some of the best ski trails in Canada from this ski-in, ski-out backcountry lodge near Whistler, BC. This lodge is a wilderness adventure playground situated in the Southern Coast Mountains of British Columbia, Canada. Nestled into a grove of old-growth yellow cedars, this lodge is Whistler's only full-service, remote access backcountry skiing and wilderness retreat. This backcountry skiing lodge offers fantastic backcountry skiing and a natural cross country skiing holiday in British Columbia. The lodge offers a variety of winter pursuits. For Nordic skiers there are miles of track-set classic cross country ski trails surrounding the lodge and unlimited opportunities for off-piste Nordic ski touring. The rolling terrain is perfect for beginner and intermediate skiers, but advanced skiers will not be disappointed by the incredible variety of terrain. You can also experience the peace and tranquility of the Upper Callaghan Valley by snowshoe. Huge stands of old growth forests and powder-filled sub-alpine meadows surround the lodge, just waiting to be discovered.

Backcountry skiing from a lodge near Whistler

For the more vertically inclined, Callaghan Country is arguably one of the best places in BC for backcountry skiing. Acres of untracked powder, high alpine bowls, steep chutes and gladed trees runs are yours for the taking. It is a 12.5 km or a 13.5 km ski to the lodge from the base, depending on which trail you take. The Callaghan Mainline trail (13.5 km) is an intermediate level ski and Wild Spirit trail (12.5 km) is more difficult. The elevation gain from the base to the lodge is 560m (1,850'). The average time to ski in is 3.5 - 4 hours and the average time to ski out is 1.5 - 2 hours (it's almost all downhill on the way out!). Believe it or not, strong athetic types have been known to ski up in an hour and out in 30 minutes!! Snowshoeing to the lodge is also an option, but make sure to give yourself plenty of time! Expect it to take at least 5 hours each direction. Snowshoers follow the multi-use access trail, Wild Spirit (12.5 km). For those guests that choose to access the lodge by snowmobile, it is a 45 minute ride in.
